Can't get a Canon MP760 All-in-One Printer to run from a USB 2.0 port?

It seems that they are meant to:

"Whether you work with film or with a digital camera, the $300 Canon Pixma MP760 is a great multifunction unit for printing photos. It's one of only two MFPs we've tested so far that include a film holder and a light in the lid for scanning slides and negatives (the other is the Epson Stylus Photo RX620). The MP760's card slots can read most memory formats (other than XD Picture Cards), and images transfer swiftly to a PC through the USB 2.0 Hi-Speed port. Alternatively, you can connect a PictBridge-compatible camera to the MP760's direct-print port." - from http://www.pcworld.com/printable/article...

and yet mine won't!? I plug it into the usb port onboard and it says "Do you realise that this device can run much faster from a usb 2.0 port?" so I swap it across to the usb 2.0 hub and it's "device not recognisable"

Any hints anyone?

Cheers

The printer will work with USB1.1. Ignore the 'device can run much faster from a usb 2.0..... ' message.

However, do not use the USB hub, connect it directly to the USB port on the pc.
Reply:Sorry. It was Canon's support page for the MP760. Just a confirmation that it works with USB 1.1 as well.

Could only accessed the site intermittently.

Reply:If you have Vista then the USB 2 stuff below won't apply, but it may mean your motherboard doesn't support USB 2.0. (Assuming this is not a computer that came with Vista.)

If the hub is connected to another onboard port (rather then a USB 2.0 addon card) then it sounds like one of your potential problems is that you either don't have USB 2.0 support, or don't have it enabled. USB 2.0 requires XP SP1 or better, and hardware that supports USB 2.0. (Plugging a 2.0 hub into a 1.1 port won't give you 2.0 support.)

If your motherboard does have USB 2.0 support, and the computer has/originally had regular Windows XP, (not SP1 or SP2) then maybe the USB 2.0 driver never got installed. Check device manager for an unknown device or for an Enhanced USB controller.

And as mentioned, the drivers for the printer should be installed before you plug the printer in, otherwise it might cause issues installing the driver later. (If all else fails, if you see any yellow question mark devices in device manager, you can try removing them and rebooting to let Windows try and reinstall their drivers.)
Reply:Did you install the printer drivers yet?? If you have Windows Vista, it already has the drivers, you just have to go to the printers folder and manually add the printer. If you have an older OS, it may not have the drivers, so you can download them from here:
